What we do
How we keep you warm.
South East Wood Fuels produces quality wood fuels, including a range of wood chip options as well as wood pellets. Through hard won experience over the past 15 years we have learned to match up the right fuel with the right boiler.
Achieving the right fuel for a boiler means understanding how biomass boilers work – which we do – from small domestic through to large multi-megawatt industrial systems. Each boiler make and model has an ideal fuel in terms of the particle size, moisture, quality and grade to ensure high efficiency combustion, saving you money on fuel costs, reducing maintenance costs and the life expectancy of your boiler as well as improving the RHI income you make for the fuel you buy.
We apply our know-how, our 150 years of collected experience, built up over the last 15 years and in our team, some of whom have been in the business for over 30 years, to make sure you get the most from your wood heating investment.

Our Wood Chip

Keeping our customers warm means getting the “basics” right
You can take it for granted that any wood chip fuel you buy from us;
Is BSL (Biomass Suppliers List) registered so you know it’s legal and sustainable from locally managed woodlands and is eligible for RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) payments.
Is standards-based: Normally Onorm (G30 /G50) or ISO 17225 (P16b / P45) compliant. If you need something different please ask us.
Is quality checked at every stage of production and before it leaves our depots. Moreover all our quality processes are regularly reviewed and the quality of our chip is independently assessed by WoodSure. In fact, we are accredited to the WoodSure Plus standard.
Is supplied in a vehicle best suited to your access, store size and design. Our vehicles are typically 30m3, 40m3, up to 110m3 and we have tippers, walking floors and grab vehicles.
From our network of regional wood fuel depots we ensure that you never run out and that your fuel is delivered just-in-time!
Keeping our clients warm while maximising the energy value you get from our chip is what we do best.
We make sure we supply the right chip for your boiler i.e. The chip as specified by your boiler manufacturer and as detailed in your boiler’s emissions certificate.
The right chip for your boiler;
We supply premium air and force dried virgin forestry chip, typically from 20-25% moisture content which is ideal for “dry chip” boilers and from 30%-50% for “wet chip” boilers.
If you made a significant investment in a moving grate boiler with a robust in-feed mechanism you may be able to benefit from our significantly lower cost arboriculturally derived chip, which is screened and or dried to meet your need.
We can help you get the most from your fuel spend by optimising your boiler. South East Wood Fuels was selected as the only UK partner of the European “Optiwood” project – an 80% funded programme to look in depth at a range of techniques to improve boiler combustion and system efficiency using specially designed data loggers to baseline current performance, identify improvement actions and monitor the results.

Our Wood Pellet

Keeping our customers warm means getting the “basics” right
You can take it for granted that any wood pellet fuel you buy from us;
Is BSL (Biomass Suppliers List) registered so you know it’s legal and sustainable from managed woodlands and is eligible for RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) payments.
Is standards-based wood pellet: We supply ISO 17225-2 (was EN 14961-2) standard pellet which is ENplus A1
We only use distributors where the wood pellet is quality checked at every stage of production and before it leaves our depots to ensure low dust, efficient fuel usage, increased boiler life and the lowest possible boiler problems. Moreover, all the quality processes are regularly reviewed and the quality is independently assessed by ENplus.
From our network of regional distributors, we are able to secure the best prices and availability so you never run out and that your fuel is delivered just-in-time!
The pellet is supplied in a vehicle best suited your access, store size and design.
Bulk blown Pellet |
For bulk blown our vehicles are typically 8 wheelers carrying 18 tonnes or 14 tonne deliveries |

Palleted PelletsFor pallets of pellet we supply by a national pallet carrier. These are typically 18 or 12 tonne vehicles, 1.8m wide, 3.4m tall and either 13.5 or 7.5m Each pallet contains 65 bags at 15kg each (975 kg in All bags are clear for easy recycling! |
Keeping our clients warm while maximising the energy value you get from our pellet is what we do best.
We make sure we supply the right pellet for your boiler i.e. The pellet as specified by your boiler manufacturer and as detailed in your boiler’s emissions certificate.
If you have a pellet system (above 200kW) we can help you get the most from your fuel spend by optimising your boiler. South East Wood Fuels was selected as the only UK partner of the European “Optiwood” project – an 80% funded programme to look in depth at a range of techniques to improve boiler combustion and system efficiency using specially designed data loggers to baseline current performance, identify improvement actions and monitor the results.

Orders, terms and supply agreements

Providing security of supply and stable pricing means keeping our clients warm – all the way down to their toes!
We are happy to supply on terms which make most sense to you. For wood pellet we normally supply by the tonne.
For Wood chip we can price by the tonne, the cubic meter and by the energy value of the fuel – on or off your heat meter.
It is sometimes the case that what’s best for us is also best for you. We prefer to supply under wood chip agreements as this really helps us to help you and this is especially the case under current circumstances of pellet shortages and skyrocketing prices. [Link to state of market blog]. Wood fuel supply agreements enable us to plan ahead for your supply;
- to guarantee to supply all year round.
- to fix prices for longer terms
- to maintain the quality of the fuel
- to make sure you know what you can expect from us and to take full responsibility for our fuel if on the very rare occasions we get it wrong.
All of this we do to maximise the heating value from your fuel spend as well as your RHI income and to minimise boiler operations and maintenance costs.
As well as wood fuel supplies, we offer much more.
- Supporting clients through the honest assessment of new biomass boiler projects
- Fixing problem boiler systems
- Offering boiler servicing
- Providing great technical support when needed.
We have built our reputation on caring for clients, being honest, offering a ‘fair deal’ on prices and quality, and sticking with clients when problems arise.
It takes time to learn how to provide the ‘right fuel for the right boiler’. Not all biomass boilers can handle wet fuel (i.e. greater than 40% moisture content) and some are not happy with drier fuel. We have the experience to advise you correctly.

Between our staff and Board Members we have more than 160 years of wood heating experience, which has been hard-won through practical projects, and the extensive assessment and use of fuels. Our consulting arm Vert Energy Associates offers more detailed analysis and technical support on a wide range of green energy technologies and systems. We offer this expertise to help you achieve efficient and low-cost boiler systems, and to take balanced decisions on future investments.
We know that good cooperation between fuel and boiler suppliers is critical for a happy client. We talk to boiler installers and operators all the time, so beware of those people who blame someone else for any problems with a boiler system.
