Wood chip

The sustainable way to keep you warm.

We are leading suppliers in high-quality, sustainable wood chip.

Our service starts by helping you identify the best wood chip product for your boiler. We then reliably supply you with high-quality fuel to keep you warm all year round.

With our support, choosing and ordering the right wood fuel has never been easier.

Why choose our wood chip?

Thanks to our knowledge of biomass heating systems, we understand the importance of stocking a range of high-quality wood chip products, tailored to different boilers.

By providing the right product for your system, we help you optimise fuel usage and keep your maintenance costs low.

Once we start deliveries we will work with you to ensure that the fuel is consistently optimised and respond to any issues quickly to maximise the benefit of your heating system.

Our wood chip is certified to the highest, most reliable quality standards, and meets all the eligibility requirements for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme.

Sustainablity, Legality and Quality of supply

We are BSL (Biomass Suppliers List) registered. This guarantees that our wood chip is of a recognised industry quality standard, is legal, sustainable and from locally managed woodlands.

This is especially important if you are eligible for RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) payments, either domestic or non-domestic. Incentive claims can only be made on purchases from wood fuel suppliers that are BSL-registered.

You can view our BSL listing on the governments BSL website.

Quality Management and Assurance

We check our wood chip at every stage of production and before it leaves our depots to ensure the product you receive meets our very high standards.

But don’t take our word for it. All our quality processes are regularly reviewed and independently assessed by WoodSureThe Woodsure Certification scheme comprehensively checks woodfuel producers to avoid sub-standard fuel and the problems it causes.

Quality Standards

ISO and Önorm quality standards ensure that the wood fuel we supply meets the requirements of your boiler manufacturer.

Our wood chip is normally ISO 17225 (P16S / P31S) categories A and B compliant. The ISO standard has replaced the previous Önorm (G30 /G50) standard.

We can supply wood chip to meet any standard you require. So if you need something different, or aren’t sure of what you need, please ask us.

ENplus Quality Standards

We work exclusively with distributors where the wood pellet is quality checked at every stage of production and before it leaves our depots to ensure low dust, efficient fuel usage, increased boiler life, and the lowest possible boiler problems.

You don’t have to take our word for it. Our quality processes are regularly reviewed and independently assessed by ENplus. EnPlus is the world-leading independent certification scheme for wood pellets. From production to delivery, it guarantees quality and combats fraud along the entire supply chain.

Getting a wood chip quote is quick and easy

Whether you’re an existing customer or looking for a new wood chip supplier, getting a quote from South East Wood Fuels only takes a minute. Just fill out our quote form and we’ll get back to you quickly.

All our chip can be supplied to a variety of moisture and size specifications

  • 20-25% moisture content, ideal for “dry chip” boilers
  • 30%-50%, ideal for “wet chip” boilers.

We supply premium air and force dried virgin forestry chip.

  • Our premium forestry chip is local, sustainably sourced, single species, wood chip, chipped to specification and air or force dried to meet client requirements

We also supply various grades of dried, screened aboriculturally derived wood chip.

You may be able to benefit from our significantly lower cost, arboriculturally derived chip sourced from whole tree chip and tree surgery by-product.

We have worked hard to produce a variety of grades suitable for most boilers which can be screened and dried to meet your need.

If you made a significant investment in a moving grate boiler with a robust in-feed mechanism we can offer significant savings against forestry chip or as a lower cost upgrade to waste wood.

Wood chip can be supplied in a vehicle best suited to your access, store size and design. Furthermore, our network of regional wood fuel depots ensures that you never run out and that your fuel is delivered just-in-time.

Frequently asked questions

What is wood chip fuel?

Wood chip fuel is a biomass fuel made from stems of trees chipped to a standard size and dried to a set moisture content, for use in boilers specially designed to handle and burn this kind of fuel.

Wood is an excellent fuel, it can be used in a wide variety of biomass heating or power technologies and is the most common biomass-to-energy fuel.

Virgin (unused) wood chip is normally produced from residues of other industries, including forestry, sawmill, and tree surgery.

Waste wood can also be chipped and burned as fuel for power and heating. This is a very good use of a waste that would otherwise be land-filled, but must be burned in a suitable boiler with appropriate emissions control technology.

How can I ensure my wood chip is from a sustainable source?

The only way of ensuring your wood fuel is sustainably sourced is by checking your supplier’s certification. At South East Wood Fuels all our fuel is accredited for legality and sustainability by the government and is registered on the Biomass Suppliers List.

Where does South East Wood Fuel's wood chip come from?

All our wood chip comes from within the south east of England, from locally sustainably managed wood lands or local tree surgery activity normally no more than 30 miles from one of our hubs.

Is biomass / wood fuel environmentally friendly?

Wood fuel energy is carbon neutral because trees absorb as much carbon when they are growing as they release when they are burnt, creating a closed carbon cycle. The following video explains this well.

How do I make my RHI claim on wood chip you supply?

All RHI claims require a BSL number associated with the wood fuel suplied. Our BSL numbers are always supplied on our invoices for reference.

What must I do to place an order with South East Wood Fuels?

It’s easy! Just contact us by phone, chat, or using the quote form. We will sort out the rest.

Orders, terms, and supply agreements

We provide security of supply and stable pricing to help our clients keep warm and control costs.

We can normally supply on terms which make most sense to you.

We aim at all times to maximise the heating value from your fuel spend, with competitive pricing and high quality fuel to increase RHI income and minimise boiler operational and maintenance costs.

For wood chip, we can price by the tonne, the cubic meter, and by the energy value of the fuel – on or off your heat meter.

It is sometimes the case that what’s best for us is also best for you.  We prefer to supply under wood chip agreements as this really helps us to help you. This is especially the case at times of fuel shortages and increased prices. Wood fuel supply agreements enable us to plan ahead for your supply to;

  • guarantee to supply all year round
  • fix prices for longer terms
  • maintain the quality of the fuel
  • make sure you know what you can expect from us and to take full responsibility for our fuel if on the very rare occasions we get it wrong
